eBooks for patients and families: Download your eBook

Your guide to reading eBooks in our collection. (This guide displays best in Firefox or Google Chrome.)

The slide show below explains how to download your eBook for up to 14 days. Use the side arrow icons to scroll through the steps.

You will need free Adobe Digital Editions software to read your book. Your eBook will no longer open after your loan period.

You may want download your eBook if you want to access your eBook offline.

Download Adobe Digital Editions

You will need Adobe Digital Editions to read your eBook offline. This software is available for free from:

After you download and install the software, you will need to create an Adobe ID and password. This is different from your eBook Central user name and password.

Download your eBook (slide show)

Click to download your eBook.

eBook Central will detect your device. Click whether you are using a public or private device. Then click 'Continue.'

eBook Central will prompt you to download and install Adobe Digital Editions, and create an Adobe ID.

Install Adobe Digital Editions on each device you are using. Use your Adobe ID on all your devices. 

Select your loan period (if available), and your format. Then, download your eBook.

Your eBook may be available for 1, 3, 7, or 14 day loan.

Select EPUB for the best reading experience. PDF format locks the page formatting. This means that if you are on a smaller screen, the print will be tiny. 

To open the eBook:

  • Find the downloaded file, ending in .acsm
  • Double click, or right click and select: Open file with > Adobe Digital Edition

Turn the pages using the arrows in the top right corner.

Or, skip ahead:

  • Click the magnifying glass to search within the eBook for the topics that interest you
  • Open the chapter you want from the Table of Contents

Click the 'A's to change text size. Click the screen icon to change to change your display size.

Save your place in the eBook with the bookmark.
