Practice-based research (PBR) is defined as the use of research principles, designs, and gathering techniques to answer questions that emerge from practice to inform practice*.
The practice-based research team provides mentorship and support to nursing and allied health point of care staff who may have questions or are wishing to engage in scholarly activities that improve patient care.

PBR Conference 2024 - Keynote Speaker
Dr. Katrina Plamandon, an Assistant Professor and Co-director of the Equity Science Lab at UBC, gave a keynote on advancing equity in research. She emphasized the importance of aligning knowledge, intention, and action to achieve real health equity. Dr. Plamandon shared practical ways to incorporate equity into every step of research, from design to implementation, and encouraged researchers to help break down systemic barriers. She called on attendees to move beyond awareness and take concrete actions that make health outcomes fair and inclusive for all communities.
